Mortgage Debt Reduction for Bankrupt

Currently on the table and under review by the Federal Housing Finance Agency is a proposal that would allow for a reduction in the outstanding mortgage debt for homeowners in Chapter 13 bankruptcy. The plan would allow those who owe more on their home than it’s worth to pay zero interest for a period of five years, subject to approval by each individual bankruptcy judge. However, a spokesperson from the White House denied that the plan was currently under consideration beyond the FHFA at this time.
